Big News: Our First-Ever Fish Release Is Coming This Fall!

ree

The Board and Committee Members of Responsible Anglers United are proud to announce a major milestone for our organization — we’ve officially partnered with American Sportfish Hatchery to bring our first-ever fish release to life this October!

This isn’t just a big moment for us — it’s a big step toward restoring and protecting our local fisheries here in South Louisiana.

Why a Fall Release?

After thoughtful planning and input from conservation experts, we chose to schedule our release for late October instead of spring. Here’s why:

  • Post-Hurricane Season Stability: By fall, water levels are typically more stable, and weather conditions are less volatile. This gives our fish a better chance to thrive after release.

  • Healthier Habitat: With more grass and vegetation returning after summer growth, fish will have ample cover and protection — a critical part of increasing survival rates.

  • Optimal Growth Time: Our hatchery partners are currently growing out healthy, 4–7” fish, giving them a strong start in the wild and increasing their chances of adapting and surviving.

  • Less Fishing Pressure: Cooler months bring a natural break in fishing pressure, especially from those who may not practice responsible angling, giving our fish time to adjust and settle into their new environment.

  • Best Price Secured: This timeline also gave us the opportunity to negotiate the best possible pricing with American Sportfish Hatchery, allowing us to maximize every dollar raised by our supporters.

What’s Next?

We’ll be sharing more updates in the coming weeks, including exact release dates, volunteer opportunities, and how you can get involved to help support this effort. Whether you’ve donated, attended a fundraiser, or simply shared our mission — this moment wouldn’t be possible without you.

Together, we’re proving that responsible anglers can make a difference.

Thank you for helping us protect, restore, and repopulate the waters we love.

Stay tuned — the best is yet to come.
